(326 words) Antoine de Saint-Exupery wrote that simplicity is the truth. So in the simplest situations, sometimes the whole of human nature lies. A. Chekhov knew this feature of human characters very well, and therefore all his stories began with simple everyday stories. Likewise, his favorite story, “Horse surname,” begins with a description of an ordinary case: a landowner, retired General Buldeev, had a toothache.
After trying all the methods of treatment, he literally put all the family on the ears. Finally, they found a way to alleviate the suffering of the head of the family: the clerk advises him to turn to a wizard who treats people with conspiracies. What to do, the poor general has to write him a telegram. Only here the clerk cannot remember the name of the caster. It only recalls that the name is "some kind of horse". What a bad luck! For a whole day Buldeev is tormented by conjectures and all kinds of options. In the morning, the patient surrenders and calls the doctor: “Let him vomit! ". The healer quickly relieves the landowner from suffering, the pain immediately abates, and, as ordered, the clerk recalls the ill-fated surname of the healer. “Oats!” He shouts out loud, “Oats!” And no matter how comical Chekhov described the miserable Buldeev, who was ready to go to the charlatan, if only to heal a tooth without pain, and the clerk, who puzzled the whole landowner’s yard for a whole day, was more likely to laugh at himself. How often do we rack our brains over insignificant problems while tormenting ourselves and others? It is good that Buldeev nevertheless came to the right decision, and we should sometimes follow his example and not waste time searching for his “horse name”, but decide everything on his own, and, more importantly, on time. I think this is the meaning of Chekhov's story. In addition, he encourages people to make smart decisions. In his opinion, everyone should do his own business: a doctor - to heal, a clerk - to take into account and manage the economy, the official should be an official, and not go to healers. I agree with the author and I think that such a balance of power is the key to public improvement.
Thus, the ideological and thematic content of this work is very close to me, so I really like it. I believe that the story “Horse surname” is a book that everyone needs to read, because it teaches what is really important for all of us.
