(278 words) The work “Fathers and Sons” is familiar to almost everyone. Its main character is Evgeny Bazarov, a democrat and nihilist. He never compromises, works without rest, enthusiastically engages in science and does not believe in art. A man is indifferent to nature and feelings. He calls love nonsense: such a feeling does not exist, and all spiritual impulses can be explained by physiology.
The meeting with Anna Sergeevna Odintsova becomes a real test for Bazarov. This is a test of love. At first glance, the hero understands: before him is not an ordinary woman. She is very beautiful and smart, it is interesting to argue with her. The hero still denies any feelings, especially in conversations with Odintsova. But he admits to himself that at heart he is a romantic. Soon he opens with his beloved. However, Anna Sergeyevna rejects Bazarov’s love. She likes his words, but she does not want to break the usual way. She feels comfortable and without passionate feelings. Eugene, unlike her, can no longer live as before. Because of unhappy love, he quits his studies and leaves for his parents. The hero helps his father and one day he accidentally becomes infected with typhus from a patient. Only Bazarov’s body dies - his soul has long been dead. The test of love was overwhelming.
In my opinion, the author wanted to prove that nihilism is a non-viable theory. Love, the joy of life, the ability to see the beauty of the world are man’s natural feelings, without which he is doomed to death. If he, like Bazarov, consciously refuses love, then he is forced to fight with himself every second: to admit that happiness is possible if he sacrifices his principles, or to remain true to himself to the end, but lose the most beautiful thing that can happen . Perhaps Bazarov believed that love is the destiny of ordinary people, and quiet happiness in the family is not suitable for him. But he did not even try to test his theory and died alone.
