(237 words) The main character of Dead Souls, Pavel Ivanovich Chichikov, during his journey, meets the landowner Nozdrev. Gogol gives an accurate description of this gentleman: "A deceitful, impudent kind of vulgarity." Such characters are typical of the comedies of Western Europe. They did not, however, transfer to Russia ...
Nozdryov is a boastful, energetic, unpredictable person. He can be called a rowdy. The landowner easily converges with people and quarrels with them just as easily. No one is surprised by his addiction to revelry and gambling, feasts and spirits. Nozdrev is only thirty-five years old. It is not badly built, blush, fresh. Health “skips over” from his face. Laughter is his call, speech is emotional. It would seem that the strength and daring of such a hero can be used for the good ... But a powerful and strong hero demonstrates his physical qualities only during gala dinners and fairs. By nature, he is not too brave, but careless. The man is constantly fussing. His farm is upset, everywhere is dirt. Only a kennel is the pride of a landowner. Paradoxically, surrounded by dogs, this nobleman looks like a "father among the family." He talks a lot about meaningless things, without hesitation rushes into the fray, composes fables.
People around him often notice the nobility of Nozdryov and refuse to deal with him. So, Chichikov notes that his interlocutor is ready to put up for sale not only dead souls, but also a barrel organ, a horse, dogs. He immediately offers to play checkers or exchange tricks ... A truly “historical” person who does not know how to learn from mistakes! It is unlikely that his character can be changed. It is easy to meet such Nozdryovs even now - debaters, players, lovers of fantastic stories who are not capable of bold deeds.
